One Touch Switch #
Please see the following video for information on One Touch Switch (starts at 23:10) and other regulatory issues –
In this episode of Gamma’s first-ever regulatory podcast, we’re joined by two industry experts, Mike Mills (Business Director, Service Providers) and Lee Turner (Head of Regulatory Affairs and Industry Engagement), to discuss the most pressing regulatory issues affecting channel partners today.
Topics up for discussion include the impact of fraud on networks, the importance of resilience, the rise of regulatory frameworks such as Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Traffic (KYT), and how evolving regulations, such as One Touch Switch (OTS), are reshaping the telecommunications landscape.
Please note that the One Touch Switch date mentioned in this episode reflects the original Ofcom deadline. While the system was introduced on 12th September 2024, Ofcom extended the use of the previous migration process until 24th October 2024 to allow time for resolving key issues.
Relay UK #
Regulated phone service providers must make sure that anyone with a disability who needs to make or receive calls in text format (instead of speech) can use an approved Relay Service.
When offering a Relay Service, providers must follow these rules:
- Fair pricing:
Calls made through a Relay Service must not cost more than they would if the call was made normally without using the service. - Extra time allowance:
Because text‑based calls can take longer, providers must offer a special tariff or pricing arrangement that compensates users so they don’t end up paying more just because the call takes longer. - Privacy:
Providers must protect the privacy of all conversations that go through the Relay Service. - Always available:
The Relay Service must be available at all times for lawful use. - Works with other services:
Users must be able to communicate with people using other approved Relay Services — they shouldn’t be restricted to one type. - Follow Ofcom directions:
Providers must follow any additional instructions that Ofcom gives about how Relay Services should work.
